Dr. Malmgren is a former Economic Advisor to President GW Bush in The White House and a member of the National Economic Council, The President’s Working Group on Financial Markets and, later, an advisor to the British Cabinet on trade issues. She is a Strategic Advisor to C10 Labs, the MIT Media Lab based AI Venture Builder Studio and is on the Young Presidents Organization Faculty since 2023 (on Geopolitics, AI, Space, Leadership). She is a Senior Associate Fellow of RUSI, the world’s leading defense think tank and on the Board of Premios Verdes which holds the annual “Green Oscars” to support the best cleantech start-ups in emerging markets. She is also a Founder member of LUNARC, a project to ensure the first human institution on the moon represents the arts and humanities. She has served on the Judging Panel of The King’s Awards for Enterprise since 2017. She has practical experience in tech having launched a robotics start-up in 2014 and continues to advise several start-ups and venture studios through The Geopolitica Institute, which she founded.

She is also an award-winning bestseller whose book, The Leadership Lab won Business Book of the Year in 2019 and was a finalist in The American Book Fest Best Book Award in 2020 for Business: Management & Leadership. She won an International Press Award 2020 for her book, The Infinite Leader in 2021. She is most well known for her books Geopolitics for Investors (2015) and Signals: How Everyday Signs Help us Navigate the World’s Turbulent Economy (2017). She now writes a column about the world economy and geopolitics on Substack.

She has a BA from Mount Vernon College and an M.Sc. and PhD from LSE in International Political Economy. She completed the Harvard Program on National Security and has lectured at Duke University in the Global Executive MBA Program (GEMBA) and at Sandhurst and The Royal College for Defense Studies. In 2024 she was awarded the Mission College Women in Leadership Prize.
